Residents of Latvia report the appearance of the first chanterelles in the forests. Photos of young mushrooms have sparked lively discussions on social media among fans of quiet hunting, writes Nasha.lv.

The author of the publication reported that she noticed small chanterelles on one of the forest trails in the area of Lozmetejkalns, located in the Valgunde parish of Jelgava municipality. According to the woman, there are still few mushrooms, and they are very small.

The news sparked great interest among users. Many admitted that they now plan to go to the forest this coming weekend in hopes of finding the first mushrooms of the season. Some mushroom pickers noted that they regularly visit the forest, but have not encountered chanterelles yet. Others confessed that after seeing the photos, they can hardly wait for the opportunity to get out into nature.

"When I go for chanterelles, I always laugh that I have special glasses. My daughters walk nearby and see nothing, while I keep collecting and collecting."

"A true Latvian does not see chanterelles — he feels them!"

"I still don’t feel it. But soon I will feel it — they should already be appearing. I feel it!"

"I shouldn’t have shown this — now I’m thinking about how to get into the forest!"

As already reported by Bb.lv, the first white mushrooms have already been spotted in the forests of Latvia.

It is worth noting that the first chanterelles in the forests of Latvia begin to be found as early as late May or early June. However, the mass mushroom season usually starts in July and lasts until autumn, and in warm weather, they can even be found in November.

Experts recommend going to the forest with a fully charged mobile phone, so that in case of need, help can be called or orientation in the area can be maintained.

In recent months, cases of bear sightings have been increasingly reported in various regions of Latvia, so mushroom pickers are advised to exercise caution, avoid venturing into unfamiliar areas alone, stay aware of their surroundings, and not approach wild animals.

Specialists emphasize that when encountering a bear, one should remain calm, not attempt to get closer for a photo or video, and slowly leave the area of the encounter.
