How our authorities practically "care" about supporting families.
Expert of the Confederation of Employers Janis Hermanis shared data from the EU statistical office Eurostat on government spending in EU countries to support families with children - as a percentage of GDP. Unfortunately, Latvia ranks low in this indicator as well, specifically, our country occupies the 6th place from the bottom, allocating only 1.40% of GDP for families with children. Even less is allocated by the Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, and Malta. The record for saving on families with children is held by Greece - 0.91% of GDP.
The average spending on family support across the European Union is 1.99% of GDP.
Denmark allocates the most budgetary funds for families with children - 4.07% of GDP. Luxembourg is in second place with a figure of 3.65%. The top three is completed by Slovakia and Finland - 3.50% of GDP. Interestingly, Estonia ranks high in seventh place, investing 2.37% of GDP in support for families with children. Lithuania's spending on these needs is 1.82%.
