They assemble in the Upper Room of Zion and all sit down at the table, leaving the most honorable place in the middle for Christ. And when they begin to eat, something miraculous happens.

When the third hour of the afternoon struck, they all together heard a sound like a storm, and bright flashes and tongues of flame appeared above their heads. This flame, similar to the Holy Fire, did not burn them. This preceded the Holy Spirit, who was sent to the apostles by God the Father, as promised by God the Son.

Thus, the Lord revealed His third person, unveiling to them the mystery of the unity of the Holy Trinity. And the apostles received special gifts, so from that day they could speak in different languages. This ability allowed them to preach the Gospel throughout the world. And then the Church of Christ was born — eternal and ready to accept all who wish to join it.

Trinity symbolizes spiritual renewal, the unity of believers, and the strength of faith that can overcome all. This holiday reminds us of the necessity to constantly strengthen our spiritual connection with God.

Traditions of worship

On this day, the Divine Liturgy and evening service are held in Orthodox churches in a special manner — in remembrance of the descent of the Comforter Spirit upon the apostles. For the first time after Easter, believers kneel.
