The Society "Latvijas ceļu būvētājs" (LCB) sent a letter to the Crisis Management Center requesting a public clarification on how builders should act in cases of possible drone attacks or other threats, LCB reported.
Road builders are working across the country, including in Latgale and Vidzeme, where threats have already arisen, but industry enterprises have not yet been informed about the responsible persons who should make decisions in this context and about the relevant procedures, LCB explained.
The Road Builders' Society emphasizes that when receiving a threat alert, it is unclear to industry enterprises what actions are necessary and who has the authority to give orders to stop or continue work. It is also unknown whether shelter is needed and where to do so, considering that work is being carried out both in populated areas and outside of them, where there are no available shelters.
The letter highlights that the road construction industry is concerned about the safety of the people involved in the work and the preservation of road construction equipment. Industry representatives do not want to face situations where, for example, disoriented drones or other weapons of attack mistake an asphalt paver for a mobile radar installation, and a bulldozer is mistaken for a tank.
Additionally, LCB believes that there are still a number of unanswered questions, such as whether and how clients - state and municipal institutions - will compensate for the downtime of road builders and whether extensions of contract deadlines for enterprises are planned.
As reported, on Thursday, for the third consecutive day, local governments in the eastern border area received alerts about possible threats to airspace.
The Society "Latvijas ceļu būvētājs" was established to represent the interests of enterprises involved in road and bridge construction on significant issues for them and to address current industry matters in cooperation with state and municipal institutions. The society represents the interests of 15 significant enterprises in the industry related to the construction of road and bridge infrastructure.
