The Latvija.gov.lv state services portal will be unavailable on May 22 due to the implementation of extensive improvements aimed at updating the structure, functionality, and user-friendliness of the portal. The portal will resume operation on May 23.
As part of the modernization, the structure and navigation of Latvija.gov.lv have been improved to make it easier for users to navigate the content and electronic services, as well as to find the necessary information more quickly. The changes will affect both the computer and mobile versions of the portal. The portal will also receive visual updates that will make the user environment clearer, more modern, and uniform.
Accessibility for Different User Groups
The portal is being adapted to meet the needs of various groups in society in accordance with international and European accessibility requirements for digital services.
Compliance with the WCAG 2.1 AA standard ensures content accessibility for people with functional, cognitive, and other impairments, including vision, hearing, mobility, and mental health issues. For example, information is structured with clear headings and sections, and each page has a unique title. The design will become calmer—without alarming colors and signals, using light and neutral shades.
Improved Search on the Portal
Latvija.gov.lv has implemented a semantic search based on artificial intelligence.
Now the search engine understands not only exact keywords but also the meaning and context of users' search queries—both in Latvian and English.
Changes for e-adrese Users
Significant improvements are being made in the e-adrese section based on user experience and societal needs. The message list, settings management, and message search function have been enhanced. The process of selecting recipients and preparing messages has also been improved, and users will be able to manually create folders for structured storage of correspondence.
Due to the transition to the new version of the portal, some old e-adrese messages may initially be temporarily unavailable. Information will gradually be restored in full.
Improvements in Electronic Invoice Processing
The portal has also modernized the electronic invoice system for entrepreneurs. The solution for e-rēķini is now separated from e-adrese messages, creating a separate environment for managing electronic invoices. New features have been added—expanded types of invoices, the ability to copy invoices, add attachments, automatic saving, and invoice templates.
To ensure safer collaboration with accountants and external service providers, a permissions management system has been implemented, allowing access only to electronic invoices without access to other sensitive company information.
Service Recommendations
Gradually, other AI-based solutions will be implemented on the portal to help users find the necessary services more quickly. A separate block with recommendations created by AI will appear on the main page. Such recommendations will be displayed only to users who have consented to the use of their data.
The Latvija.gov.lv portal is a single platform where residents and entrepreneurs can access services from state and municipal institutions, obtain information, and communicate securely with the government in an electronic environment.
