A Latvian proverb states that the best mushroom spots are passed down through inheritance — a true Latvian would rather take them to the grave than reveal them to anyone. But a real miracle happened: one patient not only confessed to the doctors that he had secret mushroom spots but even drew a map on how to get there.
Evita writes on social media X: “A patient drew me a map on how to get to his two mushroom spots. (Where to go, how many kilometers after each turn, and so on.) I think nothing can top this.”
Commentators were shocked by the patient’s act and began to speculate about the reasons:
“Is he dying? Or did you personally pull him back from the dead? There are no other options.”
Lasma asked the author of the post: “Wait, is this a patient who won’t live to see the next mushroom season and has no one to pass such an important legacy to?”
To which the author gave a detailed response: “He will, he will! I scheduled him for surgery after the mushroom season, and he was very happy that he wouldn’t have to miss the season.”
One of the users summed it up: “There is simply no higher award in Latvia.”
