The National Electronic Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP) has restricted access to two more internet portals that, according to the authorities, disseminated Russian propaganda and materials in support of the war against Ukraine.

Access to the websites "telesurtv.net" and "telesurenglish.net" has been blocked in Latvia. The decision was made by the National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) after receiving information from competent state institutions.

According to the authorities, these portals published one-sided and biased information about Russia's war against Ukraine. The materials allegedly fostered support for the Russian military and created a positive image of Russia.

The NEPLP believes that such content can negatively impact Latvia's information environment and public sentiments.

This concerns not only the dissemination of individual publications but also a broader impact on society — including interethnic relations, perception of democratic values, and support for Ukraine.

Importantly, in recent years, Latvia has regularly restricted access to websites and TV channels that state institutions consider tools of Russian propaganda or information influence.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, the number of such decisions has noticeably increased. The restrictions apply to both television channels and internet platforms.

Latvian authorities have repeatedly stated that they view information security as part of national security, especially in the context of war and hybrid threats in the region.

The NEPLP emphasizes that the goal of such restrictions is to protect the country's unified information space and reduce the risks of disinformation.

Previously, the council had already made similar decisions regarding other websites and media resources associated with the dissemination of pro-Russian content.
