The centralized Latvian language exam for 9th graders was interrupted in ten municipalities on Tuesday due to the declared threat in the airspace, reported Minister of Education and Science Dače Melbarde.
According to the information provided by the Ministry of Education and Science, the exam was interrupted in Rezekne, Rezekne Municipality, Preili, Kraslava, Madona, Ludza, Smiltene, Valmiera, Gulbene, and Cesis regions.
Melbarde stated that students managed to complete the first part of the exam, and it is planned that they will take the second part on June 9 according to the approved schedule.
Meanwhile, the oral part of the exam will take place this week - by May 22. Schools may adjust the timing of the exams if necessary, assessing the condition of the students.
The minister reported that actions in such situations had already been discussed with municipal education authorities, and on May 21, a seminar for school leaders on actions in air threat situations is planned in collaboration with the State Fire and Rescue Service and the National Armed Forces.
Melbarde also reminded that in the case of a local threat, decisions to suspend classes or exams are made by the local civil defense commission based on information provided by the responsible services.
Only one question to the National Alliance of Latvia from the bb.lv editorial team. So, how many years have you been defending the Latvian language? Surely, your appointees have received salaries in the Saeima and ministries for the work done (or not done?). And where is the result? Maybe it's time to resign your mandates?
