As we have already reported, law enforcement agencies are investigating possible corruption at the Stradins Clinical University Hospital.

The prosecutor's office confirmed that the State Police is investigating a criminal case under the Criminal Code regarding the demand and acceptance of illegal benefits. The prosecution of the criminal case is overseen by the prosecutor's office for the investigation of crimes in public service.

A representative of Stradins Hospital, Vineta Klavina, confirmed to the LETA agency that, based on the decision of law enforcement agencies, the head of the neurosurgery clinic, Egils Valeinis, has been suspended from duties.

At the same time, there is no prohibition for Valeinis to engage in medical practice.

The hospital is cooperating with law enforcement agencies within its competence, Klavina reported.

Janis Stukens has been appointed as the acting head of the neurosurgery clinic.
