Perhaps they are being brought to Riga from Dobele through the Hormuz Strait, otherwise how to explain the fairy-tale price — from 12 to 20 euros per kilogram.
However, there is interest in this greenhouse product among buyers.
On social media and at various city markets, the opportunity to purchase the first strawberries grown in Latvia is increasingly appearing. Although the season for local berries is just beginning, producers are already offering greenhouse-grown strawberries, the prices of which are currently relatively high.
The company Jaunvecumi reports on its Facebook page that it offers fresh strawberries grown in Latvia at a price of 15 euros per kilogram. Meanwhile, Blomi zemenes offers customers the chance to buy berries directly from the farm at a price of 12 euros per kilogram. Durbes dārza veltes also announced the start of the season on social media: "We can declare the strawberry season open," the producers write, adding that the first strawberries have already been harvested and will be available at the Liepaja market for 15 euros per kilogram.
Strawberries grown in Latvia can also be purchased at the Valdemarpiļs market. Producers indicate that the farm is located in Valdemarpiļs at 19 Plavu Street.
As usual, the first local strawberries are significantly more expensive than in the middle of the season when the supply of berries becomes wider and prices decrease. However, despite the high prices, interest in strawberries grown in Latvia is already very high.
As reported by Bb.lv, the first sweet cherries have also appeared at the Riga Central Market, but their price may surprise buyers — social media reports that a kilogram of berries costs 29 euros. Although the first seasonal berries often appear at significantly higher prices, which usually decrease later as supply increases, many still find such a price inadequate.
