More than 9.6 million euros is planned to be allocated from the revenues of the instant "Lottery of Antiquities" for the preservation of the Dome Cathedral and monastery ensemble by 2028, as reported by the GOOO "Latvijas loto."
The goal of the lottery organized by "Latvijas loto" at the initiative of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture is to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of Latvia, and this year 2.3 million euros have been allocated for these purposes.
The head of the restoration of the Dome Cathedral, Ronalds Lusis, notes that the ensemble is expecting the largest restoration work in the last 100 years. The main problem is related to the location and foundation of the church, which has led to uneven settling of the building's structures over time.
The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, which is part of the ensemble, is also awaiting reconstruction. As its director, Liene Johansone-Kuzmina, reported, thanks to the "Lottery of Antiquities" and the 730,000 euros allocated this year, part of the roof of the complex can be renovated while continuing to occupy the previous premises.
"Latvijas loto" reported that as a result of the "Lottery of Antiquities," 9.6 million euros will be directed towards the preservation of the Dome Cathedral ensemble by 2028. A second series of the lottery will be launched soon.
