This spring, a unique hotel in Latvia, created from railway cars, will begin welcoming guests.
Several cars are equipped with special VIP rooms where special passengers previously spent the night during trips between Riga and Moscow, reports the program "900 Seconds" (TV3).
A total of five cars have been adapted for the hotel’s needs — four sleeping cars and one dining car.
"VIP cabins are essentially two compartments combined into one. Here, there are all the amenities, a television, internet, a separate sink," said the hotel owner Edijs Veinbergs, showcasing a special VIP car where Alla Pugacheva once traveled between Moscow and Riga.
The cars have been preserved in their original condition. The shower cabin has also been retained — it has remained since the time when these cars transported special passengers.
"This is historically a restaurant. Those who will stay in the cars will be able to prepare breakfast here. The idea is that you can celebrate a birthday very well here," noted Veinbergs.
The owner of "Pasiiektas Windmills" purchased the "Latvijas ekspresis" cars and began their installation two winters ago. The purchase, delivery, and installation of the cars in the Ventspils region took about two months.
"Initially, the idea was to load them onto trucks and transport them by highway. Then we realized that they could not be taken out of Riga — they do not fit under the bridges. Therefore, they were delivered by rail," added Veinbergs.
The most time-consuming part was obtaining approvals and processing documents. The cars were ready to welcome guests last summer, but due to various bureaucratic reasons, they remained without visitors at that time. This spring will be the first when it will be possible to spend the night in them.
"We are in the home stretch, and I think that within the next two weeks, it will already be possible to stay overnight," noted the hotel owner.
The cars can accommodate up to 60 guests. According to the owner, weekends are already booked for the entire summer, while there is still an opportunity to book an overnight stay in the railway car on weekdays.
