Not to Get Confused: Important Information for Latvian Cancer Patients and Their Accompanying Persons

The relocation of all departments of the Latvian Oncology Center (LOC) of the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital before the start of the building reconstruction is planned to be completed by the end of June.

The hospital reported that since the beginning of this year, all oncological surgical departments of the Latvian Oncology Center (LOC) have been moved to the renovated premises of the "Gaiļezers" hospital.

To make this relocation possible, several treatment departments were also transferred to the "Gaiļezers" hospital at the same time.

According to the hospital, a total of 14 departments and clinics have been relocated so far, and the relocation process will continue until the end of June 2026. To start construction work, it was necessary to vacate not only the wards of the LOC but also the second floor of the building, where medical and administrative offices were located.

During the construction work, several important medical units continue to operate at the LOC - the outpatient clinic, the department of diagnostic radiology, the clinical department of nuclear medicine, the Human Cell and Tissue Transplantation Center, the outpatient therapy department, and others.

The hospital reports that the handover of the second phase of the premises to the contractor is scheduled for June 30, after all inpatient departments of the LOC have been transferred to the "Gaiļezers" hospital.

The reconstruction is planned to begin in the second half of 2026, with the project expected to be completed in the first half of 2028. The commissioning of the premises will be carried out in stages: first, the operating block and the intensive care unit will be completed, followed by the other hospital premises.
