Russia produces significantly more weapons than the European Union, said European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius.
He announced the data for the past year:
-
Cruise missiles: Russia — 1100; EU — 300.
-
Ballistic missiles: Russia — 900; EU — 0.
-
Artillery ammunition: Russia — 4 million; EU — 2 million.
-
Infantry fighting vehicles: Russia — 3500; EU — 500.
"If we want to deter Russia, we must produce more than Russia! Our transatlantic partners plan to reduce their role in the conventional defense of Europe to a secondary one. The responsibility for European security is becoming European," said Kubilius.
He calls for at least 131 billion euros to be allocated to the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF).
Earlier, the head of the Belgian General Staff, Frederik Vansina, stated that Europe wants to rearm by 2030 and that the war in Ukraine should be over by that time.
"By 2030, if we continue on the current trajectory, we will be significantly stronger than today. And by 2035, I believe that this strategic autonomy of Europe will become achievable — provided that budgets continue to grow. The year 2030 will be a difficult period for Europe. By that time, let's hope, the war in Ukraine will already be over. Russia will remain with this army of 650–700 thousand seasoned fighters. Therefore, by 2030, we must be able to tell Vladimir Putin that even without the Americans, he will not win a war against Europe," Vansina stated.
