On Monday evening, April 20, the second chick hatched in the sea eagle nest in Durbe, which is monitored by the Latvian Nature Fund via a live video stream, reports LETA.
As seen on the surveillance camera, the pair of eagles, Mildā and Zorro, are taking care of feeding the chicks. Zorro is providing the family with fish.
According to viewers of the broadcast, the first chick hatched this year in the dark and was first spotted on camera on the morning of April 18 at 5:52.
This season, the male Zorro has also been actively involved in incubating, helping Mildā keep the eggs warm, as well as providing her with food.
This spring, two eggs were laid in the nest.
Mildā and the male Zorro (Zori) have been together since April 2024, after the previous male, Hugo, disappeared in mid-April. At the end of April, when Mildā was absent, a raven stole both eggs from the nest, making the 2024 season unsuccessful for the nest in Durbe.
Last year, two chicks, Leo and Neo, hatched and were raised in the nest in Durbe.
It was reported that the sea eagle nest in Kurzeme, in the Durbe region, is the most popular broadcasting object of the Latvian Nature Fund. It is located at the top of an old spruce tree, approximately the height of a nine-story building. The broadcast has been ongoing since 2015.
