Liana reported that her grandmother Ruta became a resident of the social care center 'Liepa' in Riga at the beginning of last year. Relatives regularly visited the elderly woman, as reported by the program 'Bez Tabu'.
At first, Ruta could still go for walks with her loved ones, but over time her condition worsened. However, the last attempt to visit her ended in shock: relatives were informed that the grandmother had been taken to the hospital.
It then became clear that she had been in a medical facility for four days — and none of the relatives had been notified about it. When Liana arrived at the hospital, she faced even more devastating news.
The nursing home resident was admitted to the hospital on April 2, and her death was recorded on the night of April 3. However, relatives only learned of this on April 7 — and that was through their own initiative. Only after that did a call come from the nursing home informing them that Ruta had been hospitalized, although by that time the family already knew of her death.
While organizing the funeral, the family contacted the nursing home to ask why no one had informed them about the hospitalization for several days, depriving them of even the theoretical opportunity to say goodbye to their loved one and be by her side in her last hours. The response they received was unexpected:
"There was a lot of work before the holidays. I intended to call Ruta Braun's granddaughter and had prepared her card with the relatives' contacts, but due to human error, I forgot to inform them about the hospitalization. It was not done intentionally. It was a very difficult day. I sincerely apologize for what happened."
