The invasive Spanish slug threatens to become the worst enemy for gardeners and farmers in Latvia this year.

For owners of their beloved six hundred square meters in Latvia, invasive Spanish slugs have become a real disaster. If spring turns out to be wet again this year, these gastropod mollusks could cause catastrophic damage to the crops in garden plots.

What to do?

When it comes to assistance from official organizations, for example, in the Cēsis region, they have already announced the organization of applied seminars on combating the threat, as well as the publication of useful brochures.

In turn, the State Plant Protection Service reminds that the following products are currently registered and recommended in Latvia for fighting slugs: "Ferramol," "Ferramol Limacide," "Ferronite Slug Granules," "Ferrocious," "Ironmax Pro," "Nemaslug," "Substral Limex," "Vitrol GB."

Meanwhile, a statement from the waste management company SIA "ZAAO" somewhat resembles a "cry from the heart." This company urgently requests gardeners not to throw live creatures, including slugs, into either household waste containers or biological waste containers. Because "ZAAO" simply does not know what to do with them.
