Demand for banana eaters noted in Riga. They have even started breeding them in Plavnieki!

The banana eater is a small tree gecko native to New Caledonia. It received its amusing name due to its particular fondness for overripe fruits, especially bananas, which are part of its diet.

Despite the distant New Caledonia, the banana eater is becoming increasingly popular in our region - in Latvia. Among exotic animals sold in the country, it currently holds the top position.

Interestingly, the banana eater, like most lizards, can shed its tail when in danger, but a new one does not grow back. To maintain a beautiful large tail, it is necessary to handle the pet carefully, claim their owners.

The price range for banana eaters in Latvia is quite decent. From 35 euros for a 10-month-old individual, "preferring to eat crickets and purees," to 70 euros for a 7-month-old specimen. In the latter case, the advertisement states: "trained to eat from a bowl of cockroaches. Home-bred. Located in Plavnieki. Consultation for my clients after purchase 24/7."

With proper care, banana eaters can live up to 15 years.

More banana eaters, good and different!
