On certain sections of state highways, the maximum permitted speed will be increased starting Wednesday, April 15, the LETA agency was informed by the State Joint Stock Company "Latvijas valsts ceļi" (LVC).
The maximum speed limit will be increased to 110 km/h on the Jūrmala Highway (A10) on the section from Riga to Jūrmala.
A speed limit of 100 km/h will be allowed on the Daugavpils Highway (A6) on the section from Salaspils to Ikšķile, as well as on the Jelgava Highway (A8) on the section from Riga to Jaunolaine.
At the same time, on the four-lane section of the Kekava Bypass from Krustkalns to the intersection with the Riga Bypass, the maximum permitted speed for vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons will be 120 km/h.
LVC points out that the section from Krustkalns to the intersection with the Riga Bypass is marked with a "Speed Road" sign, which allows travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h and prohibits the use of this section by slow-moving vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Regarding the operation of variable electronic road signs, LVC notes that starting April 15, on the Vidzeme Highway (A2) on the section from Langstiņi to Sigulda, where such signs are in effect, the maximum permitted speed under favorable conditions will be up to 110 km/h.
The information on electronic signs will change depending on the actual traffic conditions determined by meteorological stations installed along the road.
The variable electronic signs are connected to three weather stations that collect data, including the coefficient of friction, air and road surface temperature, amount, type, and intensity of precipitation, visibility, wind speed, and other indicators. Based on this data, the appropriate maximum speed is automatically selected. The information is updated every five minutes and may vary across different sections.
If there is no information on the electronic boards, the maximum permitted speed outside populated areas is 90 km/h, with the driver required to choose a speed considering weather conditions and road situation.
