Today, April 10, an impressive achievement was recorded in Riga – a sandwich over 40.5 meters long was created, surpassing previous records of the capital.
In a large-scale gastronomic challenge, more than 50 young people and educators from 12 European countries joined forces.
The longest sandwich in Riga was prepared at the Riga Tourism and Creative Industries College as part of the international youth event AEHT Youth Parliament 2026, which is being held in Latvia for the first time this year.
A significant amount of local products was required to achieve this goal:
– over 15 kg of high-quality boiled doctor sausage;
– 65 loaves of bread provided by the Latvian Bakers' Association;
– a substantial volume of cheese and dairy products.
The main theme of the event – “Sustainable Gastronomy Tourism – Actions After 2030” – brought together future professionals from the industry across Europe to discuss reducing food waste and using local products.
As noted by AEHT President Remko Kuerts, such initiatives demonstrate that sustainable gastronomy implies a close connection between education and leading producers.
