New rules are being introduced in Riga and the Marupe municipality, along with additional routes: the network of bike paths is expanding, restrictions for electric bicycles are changing, parking conditions are being adjusted, and new bus stops are being launched. We explain what changes are already coming into effect and how they will impact the daily movement of residents.
The Bicycle Path from Marupe to Riga is Completed
In the Marupe municipality, construction work on bicycle infrastructure has been completed ahead of the spring season. As a result, two bicycle routes connecting Riga with several settlements in the Marupe municipality have been created. The total length of the new bike paths is 9.5 kilometers.
Where the 4 Sections of the Bike Route Lead

On the route Riga (city border) — Marupe — Jaunmarupe, four sections have been completed: Ziedkalnu Street, Mazcenu Alley, Vecozolu and Rožu Streets, as well as a section of Dzelzcela and Tirain Street.

On the route Riga (city border) — Babite — Pinki, three sections have been built: Priežciema, Babite, and Pinki.
The goal of the project is a unified, continuous network of main bike paths in the Marupe municipality, ensuring accessibility of "green mobility" between settlements. The aim is to develop local and regional connections, as well as to improve the quality of life for residents of the region and preserve the environment.
The total expenses amounted to 3,481,170 euros, of which 2,877,000 euros are covered by the EU Recovery Fund, and 604,170 euros is co-financing from the Marupe municipal government.
Where to Buy a Bicycle Cheaply
At the upcoming electronic auction, which will be completed by April 7 by the State Joint Stock Company Valsts nekustamie īpašumi (VNĪ), a whole range of bicycles in various conditions is presented.
For example: in Riga, a “Ghost cross 5100” is offered for the price of 30 euros; the time for the price survey (auction) is from March 27, 2026, to April 7, 2026; the deadline for payment of the declared amount is April 13, 2026. Inspection of this lot can be conducted upon prior request, which must be sent via email: kustama.manta@vni.lv.
VNĪ also offers among the lots: cars, rarities (a Fabergé letter knife), jewelry, etc.

Parking and Restrictions
For Electric Bicycles
The government has supported amendments prepared by the Ministry of Transport, which provide for a ban on the movement of electric bicycles on sidewalks starting from April 1 of this year. This is done to protect pedestrians.
Access to Parking for the Disabled Will Be Expanded
The circle of those who will be able to obtain a card for using parking spaces for the disabled is being expanded - now it will depend not only on age but also on actual care needs.
The previous rules unjustifiably limited the right to such a card for people whose need for care persists or even increases after the age of 18.
In addition, municipalities will be given the right to issue special permits. These will allow people with disabilities to move on transport along sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths, to make it easier to reach their homes.
A Bus Will Go to Lucavsala
Good news, especially for renters of small gardens and visitors to recreation areas on Lucavsala — bus No. 10 will soon be going there, and three new stops will be established for more convenient access to the desired destination. All necessary permits are currently being processed.
Currently, the nearest public transport stops (trolleybuses 4 and 19) are located quite far away - at the Island Bridge.
