In Latvia, 214,283 adults with disabilities have been counted. Where do so many come from?

At the end of last year, Latvia had 214,283 adults who were assigned a disability, according to data from the State Medical Commission for Health and Working Capacity Expertise.

Of these, 116,570 are women and 97,713 are men.

The largest number - 94,600 people - have a third group disability. Another 93,832 people have a second group disability and 29,239 people have a first group disability.

The first group of disability is assigned if the disability is very severe and the loss of working capacity is 80-100%, the second group of disability is assigned if the disability is severe and the loss of working capacity is 60-79%, and the third group of disability is assigned if the disability is moderate and the loss of working capacity is 25-59%.
