Unexpected: The College of the Latvian Border Guard Will Teach Magic

The State College of the Border Guard announced the creation of a new structural unit — the Department of Illusions and Magical Tactics. According to the announcement, starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, students will be offered to master the application of magic in tasks related to the protection of the state border.

According to the college's announcement, the new program aims to develop "innovative and unconventional methods" of ensuring security. The curriculum will include courses on the use of illusions in border control, methods of "prediction" for obtaining operational information, protection against dark magic, as well as intercepting flying objects.

Classes are expected to be conducted in both theoretical and practical forms using "specialized equipment and magical tools." Experts in the fields of magic and illusion security are planned to be involved in teaching, including an illusion specialist, a clairvoyant, and a practical instructor who wished to remain anonymous.

It is also reported that applicants will have to undergo not only standard physical tests but also additional tests for "magical abilities" — in particular, the recognition of invisible objects and a safe handling check of a magic wand.

However, at the end of the announcement, the college clarifies that the initiative is an April Fool's joke and has no relation to real changes in the curriculum.
