A drone from Russia entered the airspace of Latvia and exploded, LETA reports.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force recorded the entry of an unmanned aerial vehicle from a foreign state into the airspace of Latvia from the direction of Russia. Early warning systems detected a sound resembling an explosion in the Kraslava region.
Debris from the drone has been found at the scene. Units of the National Armed Forces, the State Police, and the State Border Guard are working there.
The ministry noted that no further threat to the civilian population and the security of Latvia's airspace has been established, emphasizing that no civilians were harmed and civilian infrastructure was not damaged.
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway. The Kraslava municipality has been informed about the occurrence.
Defense Minister Andris Spruds stated that he interrupted his working visit to Ukraine and is returning to Latvia due to the incident.
