Residents are urged to make the first payment for property tax by March 31

In February, the municipalities of Latvia prepared and sent notifications to property owners about the need to pay the property tax (NĪN).

Residents are asked to meet the deadline and make the payment on time. It is recommended to use the portals www.epakalpojumi.lv or Latvija.lv.

In 2025, more than half (52%) of notifications for individuals were delivered electronically. In 2026, this figure exceeded 60% and reached 60.28%. In seven municipalities — Adaži, Kuldīga, Kekava, Marupe, Olaine, Preili, and Tukums — the share of electronic notifications exceeded 70%. A particularly rapid increase was noted in the Preili region, where this figure reached 73.3%.

Currently, 20.72% of residents receive notifications via email, 39.56% through the official electronic address system (e-adrese), and the rest by regular mail. A total of about 900,000 notifications were prepared this year. The most noticeable growth is observed in the use of e-adrese.

Experts note that it is important to continue informing residents and encouraging the transition to electronic methods of receiving notifications, as this helps save resources for municipalities and use the budget more effectively.

The electronic tax payment service on the portal www.epakalpojumi.lv is one of the most popular in the country. In 2025, it was used 390,000 times, paying taxes amounting to over 21 million euros. By mid-March 2026, the service had already been used 143,000 times, and the total amount of payments exceeded 7 million euros.

To avoid missing the payment deadline, property owners are advised to set up reminders. Additionally, those who still receive notifications by mail are encouraged to switch to electronic format — either through the portal or by contacting their municipality.

It is important to note that after registering with the official electronic address system (e-adrese), all notifications will be sent only there. To avoid missing messages, it is recommended to provide an additional email for receiving notifications about new letters.
