In the coming years, military personnel of the Defense Service will have the opportunity to serve in the Ranger unit of the Special Operations Forces of the National Armed Forces, reported the portal "sargs.lv," established by the Ministry of Defense, citing the Commander of the Special Operations Forces (SPECOP) of the National Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Ainars Rauza.
The exact timeline for when military personnel of the Defense Service will be able to enlist in the Ranger unit is not yet specified, but it may happen in the coming years. Currently, the core of the unit is being formed, and instructor training is underway.
Rangers will be military personnel of the Special Operations Forces (SPECOP), capable of performing tasks similar to those of the Green Berets, but without involvement in high-risk operations. They will specialize in conducting raids, reconnaissance, and training allies, providing support for special operations.
Recruitment will take place after passing a medical examination, obtaining clearance from security agencies, and meeting physical standards. Training will begin with a basic course, followed by specialized training; it will be intensive and primarily conducted in field conditions.
