Malaysia's largest low-cost airline AirAsia has signed an agreement with the European aerospace corporation Airbus for the purchase of 150 narrow-body A220-300 aircraft (previously sold as Bombardier C Series).

It should be noted that until now, the largest airline in the world by the number of A220-300 aircraft in operation has remained the Latvian airBaltic. They have 54 of them in their fleet. However, not all are flying – there are regular engine problems with the Canadian planes.

As for the purchase by Malaysian AirAsia, the total catalog price for 150 airliners will be about $19 billion. That is $125 million per aircraft. However, the actual figures of the contract are classified. Obviously, buying planes in bulk is cheaper than individually.

As reported by Airbus, this is the largest order for aircraft of this model. Now the number of orders for such aircraft exceeds 1,000. They can accommodate up to 160 passengers and can operate flights of up to 6,700 km.

The contract was signed at the Airbus facility in Mirabel, Quebec, in the presence of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Since the beginning of 2026, Airbus's market capitalization has fallen by 8.2%, to €144.4 billion.
