Lawyers, tests, excursions, sports activities: what else can you get for FREE in Latvia

Someone, as part of marketing, someone out of kindness - in Latvia, free offers periodically appear that usually cost a lot of money. The portal bb.lv has compiled a list of such events that will take place soon.

How to get a consultation with a lawyer for FREE

Latvian sworn lawyers, in honor of the 105th anniversary of the bar, will provide free consultations to the public for 5 days - from March 16 to March 20, 2026 (Monday to Friday). However, those interested are asked to register in advance.

Everyone is invited

Every year, as part of the Days of the Bar, around 1000 free consultations on various issues are provided to the residents of Latvia.

This year, about 60 sworn lawyers and their assistants from Riga and other cities, such as Daugavpils, Jekabpils, Kuldiga, Liepaja, Limbazi, Ligatne region, Ogre, Rezekne, Saldus, Smiltene, Talsi, and Valmiera will provide free consultations.

Some lawyers will also consult remotely.

Residents who have not yet had the opportunity to receive legal assistance from a lawyer due to payment or other restrictions are especially invited to the free consultations.

How to register with the right specialist

This can be done on the homepage of the Latvian Council of Sworn Lawyers advokatura.lv in the "Days of the Bar" section, where a list of lawyers, their addresses, contact information, consultation times, and the areas of law in which they provide consultations as part of the campaign are available.

You must contact the selected lawyer individually to agree on the time of the consultation and the area of law in which assistance is needed.

Given the limited consultation time, lawyers urge residents to apply in a timely manner. If you cannot attend, please cancel your appointment so that someone else can take advantage of this opportunity.

Adult education: how to master "digital skills" for FREE

In March, residents of Latvia are invited to register for courses to acquire or update their computer skills. Any adult resident of Latvia can apply - regardless of employment status, meaning - whether they are currently working or not. Thus, retirees and seniors can also study.

Computer Science for Beginners

As an example, we present one of the programs for those who have either no digital skills at all or whose level is very low.

  • DigiComp Level 1 "Basic Digital Skills" (in-person training program).

It is designed to teach effective use of digital technologies in everyday life. Namely: working with email, managing files, and searching for information on the Internet; learning to create secure passwords, as well as communicating and sharing information online, working with various internet browsers - Chrome, Mozilla, MS Edge, Safari, etc.

The cost of the program for the student is 0 euros.

No prior knowledge is required.

Class time - 8 hours (academic).

Number of students in the group - 15.

How to register

To do this, you need to create an individual learning account on the Stars platform (stars.gov.lv), which allows you to plan and keep track of professional skills, experience, and education, take digital skills tests, receive career consultations, and register for training programs to remain competitive in the labor market throughout life.

As of March 2026, more than 54,000 adult Latvians have already created personal accounts on the Stars platform.

With Stars, you can obtain a new profession in a wide range of fields: finance, accounting and administration, business, information and communication technologies, energy, healthcare and social assistance, and others.

Participants are promised financial support. Thus, adults studying for the first time can receive 500 euros for training in the chosen program.

Professional development programs will be free for participants if the individual learning account has a "learning route" filled out, which helps to determine goals, plan timelines, and track progress.

For applicants from low-income or needy households, as well as refugees and individuals with alternative status - training is free. For these beneficiaries, transportation costs are also promised to be covered.
