The Consumer Rights Protection Center promises to take gas stations under control.
The Consumer Rights Protection Center (CRPC) reports that it has received questions from residents and concerns regarding the recent rise in fuel prices.
The increase in geopolitical tensions over the past week in the Middle East has triggered reactions in both the oil and gas markets, which has instantly led to a sharp rise in fuel prices at gas stations (GS). To ensure transparency and protect consumer interests, the CRPC will actively monitor the market situation by conducting various types of monitoring and price control of the largest fuel retailers.
The CRPC urges market participants to adhere to the principles of fair commercial practice and not to exploit geopolitical events to raise prices, as well as to explain to consumers the justification for price changes.
To choose the most advantageous fuel trader, the CRPC recommends:
• Compare fuel prices at various gas stations and with different traders; information is available on traders' websites.
• Use fuel price comparison tools/websites, such as www.kurliet.lv.
• Choose the cheapest and most suitable option by comparing final prices with applicable loyalty discounts and other discounts.
The CRPC urges consumers to continue reporting suspicious and seemingly unjustified price spikes, and to contact them via email at pasts@ptac.gov.lv or by calling 65452554.
