Starting today, new speed limits of 30 km/h are being introduced in several areas of Riga - in Kipsala, Imanta, Ziepniekkalns, and Shkirotava - on certain streets and their sections, the Riga City Council's external communication department reported.
The speed limits in these areas are necessary to enhance road safety and ensure that traffic speeds align with the existing street infrastructure.
A speed limit of 30 km/h is planned to be introduced throughout Kipsala, except for streets where limits are already established as in residential areas, meaning that the speed here is even lower. This decision was made considering the narrow streets and the high volume of cyclists and pedestrians.
Additionally, to improve traffic safety and ensure that the speed corresponds to the infrastructure, the maximum allowed speed has been reduced on the section of Rayumsila Street between Krustpils and Dzirkalju Streets, where there are no sidewalks.
To promote a safer organization of traffic and ensure that the speed corresponds to the infrastructure before pedestrian crossings and near the park, the allowed speed has been reduced to 30 km/h on the section of Ebelmuizas Street between Valdeku and Livciema Streets.
Furthermore, parking restrictions have been introduced near pedestrian crossings to improve visibility and facilitate safer movement in the respective section of the street.
A speed limit will also be introduced in Imanta - on the section of Skandu Street from Kurzemes Avenue, 3B to Skandu Street, 14.
