In the first half of March, increased atmospheric pressure is expected in Latvia, so there will be little precipitation, and air temperatures on the warmest days will rise above +10 degrees, meteorologists forecast.
According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the average air temperature in the country has been above zero since Friday, so meteorological spring has likely already begun. If the average temperature remains positive on Tuesday, then meteorological spring in Latvia started on February 27.
This week and next week, the sun will often shine, there will be little precipitation, and the wind will blow predominantly from the west, ranging from light to moderate. As the skies clear, nighttime temperatures in many places will drop below zero. During the weekend and next week, maximum daytime temperatures may reach +10 to +15 degrees, but forecasts may change.
The expected weather conditions will reduce the risk of flooding, and the remaining snow will gradually melt. According to observation stations, snow has already melted in many areas of Kurzeme and western Vidzeme, while the thickest snow cover remains in Selija and Latgale. In Dagda, there are still 43 centimeters of snow.
It is expected that next week, snow cover will only remain in Latgale, as well as in places in Selija and Vidzeme.
