A petition has been launched on the public initiative platform Manabalss.lv to change the route of Riga's 43rd bus to include a direction through Piņķi, reports LETA.

The author of the initiative, Kristians Ernests Kauliņš, points out that for the residents of Piņķi, Sebruciems, Skardciems, Vikuli, and the surrounding areas of the Marupe region, the availability of public transport is insufficient. The nearest regular stop for some residents is "Meistaru iela" in Piņķi, which is located about 30–50 minutes on foot. This significantly limits the mobility of elderly people, youth, and families, emphasizes Kauliņš.

He also claims that the existing routes No. 4 and No. 32 run relatively infrequently, with their departure times often coinciding, which means that after missing one trip, the next one is only available after a long wait.

At the same time, on certain sections of the 43rd bus route from Abrenes iela to Skulte, the passenger flow is allegedly relatively low.

"With this initiative, we want to change the existing situation by optimizing route No. 43 and ensuring the availability of public transport for the mentioned settlements without creating a new route," the authors of the initiative note.

The initiators of the petition indicate that these changes would significantly improve the accessibility of public transport in Sebruciems, Skardciems, and Vikuli, reducing the need for long walks to the stop. The changes would also enhance the mobility of elderly people, schoolchildren, and workers, contributing to equal access to public transport in the region.

Local residents believe that extending the route would allow for more efficient use of the existing route No. 43 without additional costs for creating a new route, as well as reduce the use of private cars and promote sustainable mobility.

"This is a practical and socially significant solution that improves the quality of life without imposing a significant financial burden on the municipality or the state," the initiative states, with the authors also suggesting possible stops.

The initiative is intended for submission to the Marupe municipality.
