In the Latvian city, every pensioner will receive 250 euros

Today, February 19, at a meeting of the Financial Committee of the Jūrmala City Council, a decision was supported to increase the amounts of municipal benefits this year. It is planned to raise the childbirth benefit to 1500 euros, and the annual benefit for elderly Jūrmala residents to cover health expenses to 250 euros per calendar year.

Currently, Jūrmala is the only municipality in Latvia that provides such benefits to all registered elderly residents in Jūrmala.

In 2025, the benefit was 200 euros and was provided to 9,393 elderly individuals. The benefit can be used for patient contributions and co-payments, medical and dental services, medications and medical goods (including optics and vitamins), as well as other expenses related to maintaining health.

For newborns — up to 1500 euros

It is planned that the benefit for each newborn child will increase to 1500 euros, thereby providing the largest childbirth benefit in Latvia. In 2025, the childbirth benefit in Jūrmala was 1000 euros and was provided to more than 399 families of Jūrmala residents.

The benefit for newborns is part of a broader municipal support program for families with children. Jūrmala also provides:

– an annual benefit of 100 euros to support the educational process (for children from 1.5 years old, schoolchildren, and full-time students up to 25 years old);

– free city and school buses;

– free train travel.

– free meals for kindergarten children and school students up to the 12th grade.
