An Unwanted Neighbor Has Settled in Our House: How to Get Him Out?

I have an apartment that I rent out. The new tenant asked me why he is paying for garbage collection for three people when he lives alone. Please tell me where and how I can find out who else has declared their residence in my apartment, and how I can annul the declarations of these people. Reader bb.lv.

Madara Puke, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA):

The owner of the property can check the information about who has declared their residence at the immovable property either on the OCMA portal (www.pmlp.gov.lv) or on the Latvija.lv portal - Manā īpašumā deklarētās un papildu adresi norādījušās personas (Persons declared in my property or indicating it as an additional address), and this service is free of charge.

Unfortunately, there are cases where unauthorized individuals declare their residence at an immovable property to which they have no relation and without the owner's knowledge.

Such actions are considered a violation, as during the declaration of residence, a person confirms that the information provided by them is accurate. A monetary fine of up to 165 euros is imposed for this violation. The decision on the amount of the fine is made by the local government in each specific case where the violation occurred.

If the property owner has established that someone has unlawfully declared their residence in their property (including as an additional address), they (the owner) can contact the local government with a written request to annul this declaration.
