The decision on the restoration of the house damaged by the gas explosion on Bauskas Street must be made by the co-owners, emphasized Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs in an interview with LTV on the program "Morning Panorama," reports LETA.
In response to a question about how the municipality will further support the residents of the house on Bauskas Street, the politician mentioned the crisis benefits already paid, but the further decision on the restoration of the building must be made by the co-owners themselves. According to Kleinbergs, he sees many residents who are interested not only in restoration but also in improving the building.
Kleinbergs stated that the dismantling of dangerous structures will continue for a couple more weeks, after which police investigators will be allowed into the building, and when they finish their work, the residents will finally be able to enter to retrieve their belongings.
As previously reported, according to the conclusion of a certified construction expert, the residential building on Bauskas Street in Riga, which was damaged as a result of the explosion, is technically recoverable. The municipality promised to finance the dismantling of dangerous structures and provide support for apartment repairs up to 10,000 euros per apartment, but the decision on the restoration of the building must be made by the community of apartment owners.
The explosion in the five-story residential building occurred on January 2, when one of the residents was likely trying to make an illegal connection to the gas pipeline. As a result of the explosion, this resident and an employee of the company "Gaso" died, and the upper floors and roof of the building collapsed in the area of the explosion's epicenter. Currently, residents do not have access to the house.
