At the Daugavpils observation station, the temperature dropped to -28 degrees

At 7:00 AM on Wednesday, the air temperature at the Daugavpils observation station, located on the eastern edge of the city near the Rugeļi reservoir, dropped to -28 degrees, according to data from the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCSGM).

At other stations of the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (LCSGM), the air temperature at that time ranged from -7 degrees in Kolka and -9 degrees in Mersrags to -21 degrees in Ainazi, Gulbene, and Dagda.

According to the sensors of "Latvijas Valsts ceļi", the strongest frost at 7 AM was -27 degrees on the A6 highway near Nitzgale and -26 degrees in the vicinity of Daugavpils.

In the capital, the air temperature at 7 AM varied from -13 degrees in some areas of the city center to -16 at the airport and down to -22 degrees on the Riga bypass road A4.

In the east of the country, visibility in fog has dropped in places to 100-300 meters. Light snow is falling in some areas, hoarfrost has formed, and air quality has deteriorated.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations, children under the age of 12 may not attend educational institutions if the air temperature is below -20 degrees, while students aged 13 and older may not go to school if the temperature has dropped to at least -25 degrees.
