Eight pairs of twins were born in the Riga maternity hospital in ten days

Eight pairs of twins were born in the Riga maternity hospital in ten days, according to information released by the facility, writes LETA.

The Riga maternity hospital urges parents of twins who need them to take advantage of car seats provided by other parents. These car seats (used) are available at the facility.

It was previously reported that last year, 3,722 newborns were born at the Riga maternity hospital. In comparison, in 2024, 3,959 children were born at the facility.

Of all the newborns last year, 1,763 were girls and 1,959 were boys, while in 2024, 1,958 girls and 2,001 boys were born.

Among the newborns in 2025, there are 66 pairs of twins and one set of triplets, which was born on March 21.

Almost one-fifth — 19.8% of families that welcomed children at the Riga maternity hospital last year became parents of a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh child. In comparison, in 2024, the share of families that had a third, fourth, fifth, or sixth child was 19%.

Last year, 100 Ukrainian children were also born in the maternity hospital, and since the beginning of the war, a total of 364 Ukrainian newborns have been born here.

The most "fruitful" month of last year was July, when 366 children were born. The busiest day was August 21, when 22 infants were born.
