French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has proposed conducting random and surprise drug tests among high-ranking civil servants. The proposal has sparked lively debate and divided public opinion.

The head of the French government intends to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and believes that the state should set an example for society. According to the proposal, random checks may affect senior officials in ministries and central government bodies, reports Entrevue.

The initiative has emerged amid growing concern over the scale of drug consumption in France. Experts estimate that the problem has long transcended specific social groups and affects representatives from various professions and income levels.

Some politicians suggest going even further. For instance, the mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piol, a member of the Green party, believes that testing should also be extended to members of parliament, senators, and government officials.

In his opinion, checks should be conducted anonymously to avoid double standards and to demonstrate the seriousness of the government's intentions in combating illegal drug trafficking.

Particular attention in France today is focused on the spread of cocaine. Experts note that this drug has long ceased to be associated exclusively with the criminal environment and is increasingly found among affluent members of society and various professional circles.

Specialists believe that the situation requires not only stricter control but also new preventive measures. The issue is being studied by the French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT), which collects data on the use of both illegal substances and legal psychoactive drugs.

At the same time, technologies for analyzing narcotic substances are developing. Specialized laboratories examine the composition of seized drugs and identify dangerous impurities that may pose serious health threats.

Doctors warn that synthetic cannabinoids remain particularly dangerous. After using them, young people regularly end up in hospitals with severe side effects and complications.

The proposal to test high-ranking officials has become part of a broader discussion on drug policy in France. Supporters of the initiative consider it an important signal to society, while critics warn of potential issues regarding the respect for rights and personal privacy. In any case, the discussion shows that the problem of drug use is increasingly viewed not only as a security issue but also as a serious social challenge.
