Introduce a progressive tax, abolish the excise on coffee... What does the public want?

The portal for public initiatives is dominated by "tax" proposals.

On the portal manabalss.lv, the majority of initiatives are still proposals related to reducing taxes, duties, and excises. A call to reduce or completely abolish the fee for processing a passport or ID card has already gathered over 6,000 signatures. Almost 5,000 citizens of Latvia have signed a proposal for the state to refrain from collecting excise on coffee.

There is an active collection of signatures for the initiative to increase tax benefits for dependents - currently, the non-taxable amount is 250 euros, and the authors of the initiative propose to increase the benefit for those working with children to 500 euros.

Over 9,000 signatures have been submitted in support of the proposal to increase the amount of justified expenses from 600 euros to 1,500-1,700 euros. The authors logically point out that over the 9 years since this limit of 600 euros was established, both private medical services and education fees in private schools and universities have increased significantly. It should be noted that if an initiative gathers at least 10,000 signatures, it can already be submitted to the Saeima.

The portal manabalss.lv is also collecting signatures for a progressive tax system and for including the vehicle operation tax in the fuel price, similar to Lithuania. The principle is simple: the more you drive, the more fuel you consume, the more you pay.
