In the first 11 months of this year, 1228 disruptions of the Global Positioning System (GPS) were recorded in Latvian airspace, which is 2.3 times more than in the same period last year, the LETA agency was informed by the State Joint Stock Company "Latvijas gaisa satiksme" (LGS).

In November of this year, 55 GPS disruptions were recorded, which is 27.6% less than in November of last year, when disruptions were recorded 76 times.

A total of 820 GPS disruptions were recorded last year, 342 in 2023, and 26 in 2022.

As previously stated by LGS, the disruptions began simultaneously with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and are apparently related to it.

Several systems are used to ensure flight safety, so GPS disruptions do not affect flight safety. Each case of GPS disruption is centrally collected and analyzed by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
