The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) has prepared amendments to the rules providing for additional checks when issuing visas or residence permits to citizens of Tajikistan.
At the same time, it is proposed to abandon additional checks for citizens of a number of other countries.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) notes that the rules establish a list of countries whose citizens are subject to additional checks when issuing a visa or residence permit. The rules also stipulate that the State Security Service (SSS), in cooperation with the Bureau for the Protection of Satversme, reviews the list of countries attached to the rules at least once every three years and informs the Minister of Internal Affairs about the need for changes.
Justifying the need for additional checks on citizens of Tajikistan, the MVD notes that compared to the situation when the list was last reviewed, increased terrorist risks have been identified in Tajikistan due to the activities and influence of the terrorist organization "Islamic State - Khorasan Province." Citizens of this country are at high risk of radicalization with the possibility of participating in terrorist activities, as evidenced by cases identified in other European countries, the MVD explained.
In July of this year, the European Union (EU) adopted more favorable rules for issuing Schengen visas for Indonesia.
The EU also applied a particularly favorable visa cascade for Gulf countries, including Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, and began negotiations on the possibility of introducing visa-free entry for these countries.
At the same time, after evaluating information on checks conducted in 2023-2025, the MVD concluded that citizens of Nigeria mainly apply for tourist or long-term visas, as well as for residence permits. No significant risks were identified during checks on Nigerian citizens.
