On the night of Sunday, December 14, a vast area of precipitation will cross Latvia from the west, and snow will fall almost throughout the country; however, during the day, the air temperature may rise to +7 degrees in places, forecast the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Meteorologists report that on the night of Sunday, a snow cover of up to five centimeters will form in the western and central regions of the country in places.
However, by morning in the west, snowfall will be replaced by rain, which may lead to the formation of ice in some areas.
On the night of Sunday, a weak to moderate southern wind will blow. The minimum air temperature will be between 0 and -4 degrees, and in some places along the sea coast, it will range from +1 to +2 degrees.
In Riga, cloudy weather and snowfall are expected at night, with a snow layer forming by morning that will be between one and four centimeters thick. In the morning, light rain, wet snow, and freezing rain are also possible. A weak to moderate southern and southeastern wind will blow. The air temperature will drop to -1 to -2 degrees.
During the day, it will also be cloudy in Latvia, with light precipitation expected in many places: snow and wet snow in the east, while predominantly rain will fall in the west.
The wind will be weak; however, in the afternoon, along the sea coast, it will change direction to southwest and west, strengthening to moderately strong. Over a large area, the air temperature will rise to +2 to +7 degrees, while in the eastern regions, it will not be warmer than +1 to -2 degrees.
In Riga, it will be cloudy during the day, with occasional light precipitation expected - wet snow, rain, and freezing rain possible in the morning hours. Streets and sidewalks may become slippery in places. A weak to moderate southern and southeastern wind will blow, and the air will warm up to +2 to +3 degrees.
