Stable frosts and snow are not expected in the coming weeks, and this December in Latvia will become one of the warmest in recorded history, meteorologists predict, reports LETA.
The average air temperature in the month may reach +3 degrees. Such warmth was also observed in December 2019 and 2015, but the record belongs to 2006, when the average temperature for the month was +4.3 degrees. The norm is considered to be the average temperature for December over the period from 1991 to 2020, which is minus 1.1 degrees.
According to data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, this week in Latvia is expected to be a full six degrees warmer than normal, and next week the air temperature will remain several degrees above usual, while a cooling trend may occur at the end of December.
In the coming days, the sky will be overcast, with occasional rain, the wind will mainly be moderate from the southwest, gusty along the coast, and the air temperature will range from +4 to +9 degrees.
