The Nature Conservation Administration and the natural trails of Ligatne today invite you to the traditional winter educational event "Meet the Animals in the Dark," reported to the LETA agency by Eva Ezeraša, a specialist in environmental education at the Ligatne natural trails.

During the event, participants will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the nighttime life of the inhabitants of the natural trails in Ligatne through special night hikes.

According to Ezeraši, four hikes are planned under the guidance of guides, each lasting one and a half hours and covering approximately 3.5 kilometers.

The head of the natural trails in Ligatne, Ilmārs Radziņš, explains that although people prefer to stay warm on winter evenings, wild animals become more active during this time — they emerge from their burrows and shelters, search for food, and mark their territory.

He adds that winter is particularly suitable for observing nature and animals in the dark — trees and bushes have shed their leaves, revealing animal shelters and making them easier to spot. The route is laid out on well-lit and well-maintained trails, making it suitable for children who can walk independently, but due to the terrain, it is not intended for walks with strollers.

To ensure their safety and the safety of family members, as well as to maximize the chances of seeing as many forest inhabitants as possible, each participant in the hike is recommended to bring a flashlight.

This will be the first event of the "Meet the Animals in the Dark" hike series this season. Similar events are also planned for January and February.
