This week, the Cabinet of Ministers reviewed the State Road Development Strategy until 2040.
In the short term, Latvia can expect:
– Reconstruction of the A4 highway – Riga Ring Road (Baltezers — Saulkalne) – 20.5 km, with construction costs in 2024 prices amounting to €227.1 million.
– Construction of the Bauska bypass road E67 – 14.2 km, which is already underway as a public-private partnership project.
– Reconstruction of the A7 highway Riga-Bauska-Lithuania border (Grenctāle), including the construction of the Iecava bypass road – 34.3 km, with construction costs in 2024 prices amounting to €326.2 million.
Where do the costs of roads, amounting to hundreds of millions of euros, come from? Builders receive less than half. Thus, in 2025, the cost of 1 km of state highway built “from scratch” was estimated at €9.4 million, of which the actual construction costs were €3.9 million, and the rest – design, land acquisition, noise barriers, etc.
