My daughter is called a homeless girl at school. Because I forbid her to play on mobile. Should I compromise my principles?

The mother of a schoolgirl under the nickname @Sriga7 on the social network ‘X’ shares her sad experience and even a pedagogical dilemma. According to her, everyone in the class plays the game ‘Roblox’. Some parents are even forced to constantly pay for additional features in this game.

“My daughter has a limit of 15 minutes a day, and she is not bought anything. As a result, she is called ‘the homeless girl’ in class. Now I need to decide whether to stick to my principles. I feel very bad,” shares the mother of the daughter.

Anda in the comments emphasizes that ‘Roblox’ is a game that IT security specialists do not recommend for children. She understands the mother’s dilemma but notes that the problem lies with the parents of other children who allow them to play games without restrictions.

A man participating in the discussion adds that there are many pedophiles in the game ‘Roblox’ who can influence children: “My child doesn’t have a phone, and we told him: you will become stupid if you use it, and it harms your development. The little one tells his classmates the same and lives happily.”

Ritvars also says that he forbade his son from playing this game: “We blocked the game for my son a couple of months ago. He was in hysterics because everyone compared him to others, but his friends didn’t pay attention to it. We blocked the game because the environment was toxic, and we noticed an increase in stress. Now the evenings have become calm.”

Foreign media have also reported on ‘Roblox’ and its impact on youth. A study published by The Guardian shows how easily children can be exposed to inappropriate content and interact with adults without supervision.

The game developer acknowledges that children can be exposed to harmful content and malicious actors. Representatives of Roblox state that they are making every effort to prevent this, but cooperation from the entire industry and government intervention is necessary. The company also acknowledged that age verification for individuals under 13 remains a serious problem for the industry.

The report states that an avatar belonging to a 10-year-old child could access environments unsuitable for their age. For example, a hotel room location where female avatars in fishnet stockings could be seen on beds, and other avatars lying on top of each other in sexual poses. Researchers also found that test avatars heard voice messages describing sexual acts.

Stories collected by The Guardian confirm that children face real dangers in the game. For example, a 10-year-old boy was sexually assaulted by an adult he met on the gaming platform, and a nine-year-old girl experienced panic attacks during the game after seeing sexual content.
