November was on average warmer and drier

The past November in Latvia was warmer and drier compared to the average long-term indicators, according to summarized data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.

The average air temperature in November in Latvia was +3.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees above the norm for this month. The minimum temperature of -8.1 degrees was recorded on November 26 in Ainazi, while the maximum temperature of +15.4 degrees was recorded on November 7 in Mersrags.

In the first half of November, the average air temperature in Latvia exceeded the norm by several degrees, with daily temperature records set on certain days, including national-level records. The second half of the month was colder, and on average, the air temperature was below the norm.

The total amount of precipitation in November was 34.4 millimeters, which is 42% less than the average monthly norm of 59.6 mm. The most precipitation fell in Ventspils — 91 mm, while the least was in Dobele, where 10.7 mm was recorded. On average, Latvia had 8.1 days in November with at least 1 mm of precipitation. The most such days were in Ainazi — 17 days, while the least were in Zilane, where precipitation was recorded only twice.

The drought and moisture index (SPI) in November indicated dry conditions at most meteorological stations, especially in the central regions of the country, as well as in Vidzeme and Selia, where November was extremely dry. In other areas — in Latgale and along the coast of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga — the SPI was within the norm.

The average relative humidity in Latvia in November was 91% — ranging from 88% in Kolka, Liepaja, Pavilosta, Riga, and Ventspils to 94% in Aluksne.

The strongest wind gusts of 22.8 meters per second were recorded on November 28 in Ventspils.
