And the Faculty of Racism? RTU Will Shift Focus from Students from Third Countries to Students from the EU

Riga Technical University (RTU) has raised admission requirements for foreign students and committed to gradually shifting the focus of foreign student admissions from third countries to the countries of the European Union, the European Economic Area, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development - these changes are enshrined in the updated strategic principles of the university's internationalization.

As reported to LETA by RTU, the university's administration met on Wednesday with the chairman of the Riga City Council's Committee on Security, Order, and Corruption Prevention, Girts Lapins, to discuss the strategic principles of the university's internationalization.

RTU is forming a consortium with several technological universities in Europe - in France, Italy, Spain, and Germany - to develop cooperation in education, science, and innovation, as well as to promote student mobility.

The university rector, Talis Juhna, noted that internationalization and strengthening academic reputation help the university move closer to the ranking of the top 500 universities in the world. To improve its position, RTU is raising admission requirements for foreign students, especially in mathematics and English, and is attracting foreign tenured professors, which enhances academic potential and expands research directions.

During the meeting with representatives of the Riga City Council, the RTU administration also emphasized the importance of cooperation with government agencies - the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, the Security Police, and the State Border Guard - to ensure that foreign students' stay in Latvia is fully compliant with current legislation.
