In recent weeks of its existence, the Russian-language service of Latvian Radio has focused all its efforts on discussing the relocation program for citizens of the "third world" to our republic. They are convincing that this is good. Apparently, people have no other problems? However, the National Alliance is convinced, on the contrary, that this will harm the indigenous nation!
They Want It Like in Poland
Based on Article 27 of the Satversme and the provisions of the Saeima Statute, a group of deputies sent a request to the Minister of the Interior, Rihards Kozlovskis ("New Unity"), demanding "the application of a special status for Latvia regarding the relocation of immigrants." Poland is cited as an example, which has managed to obtain permission not to accept refugees from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as well as not to pay 20,000 euros for each rejected individual. This is precisely the ransom proposed by the European Union Migration Pact.
Jānis Dombrava, Jānis Vitenbergs, Artūrs Butāns, and other nationalists proclaim: "Latvia has to allocate significant resources to guard its border with Belarus, which has turned illegal immigrants into a weapon of hybrid warfare against Latvia and all of Europe as a whole. It is important for Latvia that, within the framework of the relocation program, citizens of third countries do not enter the country, which would reduce the proportion of the indigenous nation, which has not yet reached the pre-occupation level. Latvia cannot agree to demands that create negative financial obligations in case Latvia refuses to accept immigrants."
Meanwhile, We Strengthen Our Borders
Mr. Kozlovskis, as an experienced politician, understanding who he is dealing with, responded reasonably:
"Regarding Poland, it is noted that after the aggressive war started by Russia against Ukraine, there are still many Ukrainians in Poland relative to its GDP and population, and in the last year, a particularly large number of applications for temporary protection have been registered in the country. This has significantly complicated the state system of migration, asylum, and border management and created integration problems."
However, the Ministry of the Interior of Latvia is also not resting: "It is precisely the active explanatory work of Latvia that has laid the foundation for our inclusion in the relevant category."
Against this backdrop, the head of the security forces noted that funding from the European Union for strengthening our borders continues — a total of 180 million euros. That’s not a small amount!
Ukrainian Share
"The circumstances of Latvia are indistinguishable from those of Poland," argue the nationally minded deputies. However, just looking at the map makes it clear — Latvia does not share a border with Ukraine, unlike the Republic of Poland. The latter accepted 147,920 Ukrainian citizens in 2025 alone, which ranks second in the EU after Germany. By the way, no leniency is extended to Germany.
In Latvia, only 6,730 people entered in 2025. The total number of civilians from "Nezalezhnaya" who chose Poland and Latvia, respectively, is 993,000 and 31,930. If we consider the ratio of Polish participation in the European Union by GDP and the share of immigrants from Ukraine, the latter is 3.5 times higher.
