Unemployment benefit expenditures from January to October of this year amounted to 159.3 million euros, which is 4.7 million euros, or 3%, more than the previous year, the State Treasury reported to bb.lv.
The increase in the total amount of support is related to the growth in the average benefit size.
It should be noted that the number of benefit recipients in October of this year decreased by 13.6% compared to October 2024, which is associated with a reduction in unemployment and an increase in economic activity.
According to the State Employment Agency, registered unemployment at the end of October this year fell to a historically low level of 4.7%.
Despite the decrease in the number of working-age residents, labor market participation is increasing and the number of employed is rising.
